About the ADA Centers

The DBTAC: Regional ADA Centers are a network of ten regional centers across the country. The DBTACs (which stands for Disability and Business Technical Assistance Centers) were born in 1991, shortly after the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). While the Centers still use the name DBTAC to refer to themselves generically, each Center is referred to by a name that reflects the region for which they serve. Regardless of the name of each regional Center, the core services provided are the same across the country. All ten Centers are funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research.
 
The ten regional Centers act as a "one-stop" central, comprehensive resource on ADA issues in employment, public services, public accommodations, and communications. Each Center works closely with local business, disability, governmental, rehabilitation, and other professional networks to provide ADA information and assistance. Programs vary in each region, but all Centers provide the following:

• Technical Assistance
• Education and Training
• Materials Dissemination
• Information and Referral
• Public Awareness
• Local Capacity Building

In addition to ADA services, the Centers assist individuals and entities in better understanding related disability legislation that may impact their rights or responsibilities. Information on the Rehabilitation Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, Workforce Investment Act and others can typically be provided by a Center.
