His practice is concentrated in matters involving real estate litigation, disability and insurance matters and employment disputes, especially those that are related to HIV/ AIDS and gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues. Mitchell was local counsel for John Lawrence and Tyron Garner in the United Sates Supreme Court case Lawrence v. Texas that overturned sodomy laws throughout the United States.
